Do you love to sing? Joining a choir is not only a great way to meet people; it will also fulfill one of your Fine Arts Experience requirements. All choirs are open to all majors. UMHB's choirs are committed to excellence, to thanking God for our talents, and to glorifying Him through our service.
The premiere choral ensemble at UMHB, Concert Choir is open to all students by audition. Current membership represents a variety of disciplines including Music, Christian Studies, Nursing, Business, Sociology and Computer Science. Auditions are held at the beginning of each school year and all members are expected to make a one-year commitment. The choir rehearses four days per week: M,T,W, and TH (MW at 12-12:50 pm and TH from 12:30 - 1:20 pm). Repertoire encompasses mixed-voice literature from a variety of historical periods, with special emphasis on the great 'a cappella' tradition. In 2014, they were one of only five university choirs selected to perform at the American Choral Directors convention in Little Rock (Listen here). As ambassadors for the college, the choir regularly tours from coast to coast. We encourage you to connect with us on Facebook. If you have additional questions, please contact Dr. Roueché.
University Singers is a large choir open to singers of all levels, performing both contemporary and traditional literature. In 2014, they served as the opera chorus in UMHB's production of Die Fledermaus and also combined with the Concert Choir to perform Mozart's Requiem. This choir rehearses M,W,F from 1-1:50 pm. To learn more about University Singers, please contact Mr. Crosby.
The pride and joy of UMHB, One Voice is an auditioned choral ensemble that represents UMHB in churches, schools and civic functions throughout the state and nation. Auditions held in the spring semester strongly emphasize sight-reading skills. Repertoire consists of both contemporary and classical music which reflects the varied performance and ministry opportunities of the ensemble.
