Chemistry provides students with opportunities to study fascinating topics, to conduct original chemical research, to carry out exciting experiments, to make the world better, and to have wonderful assurance of a great job after graduation! Developing better household goods, serving as a doctor or other health professional, synthesizing lifesaving pharmaceuticals, educating the next generation, and protecting the environment are all within the realm of chemistry. A chemistry degree can open the door to varied job opportunities in the U.S and around the world.
The professors are more than proficient in their areas of expertise, and they teach the information effortlessly. Even if you get some big words thrown your way, due to our small class sizes, you are more than able to contact your professor and ask questions that will help clear things up.

Connecting with Chemistry
Hands down, Kendall McGahey '16 says she would choose UMHB again if she had the chance. “I really connected with people there since it was a small school.” Kendall, who is now earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at UNT Health Science Center to become a pediatric pharmacist, says this made it easy to get “plugged in.” While at UMHB, she was a teaching assistant for the chemistry department, president of the chemistry club, attended two chemistry conferences, and volunteered at the local children’s hospital. She especially loved creating a new program called “Chemistry with the Cru” that took chemistry experiments and activities to the hospital for pediatric patients to enjoy.
