The mission of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Strength & Conditioning Education Program is to prepare future practitioners to be service-driven leaders who demonstrate excellence in improving human performance, maximizing athlete safety, and mastering specific athlete’s needs.
Goals and Objectives
In order to accomplish the mission of the SCEP, the program will:
- Provide an innovative and dynamic curriculum that reflects
a scientific basis for understanding, contemporary strength and
conditioning practice, exercise testing and technique, program design,
and program administration.
a. The program will ensure that all learning objectives as outlined in CASCE standards IIIC are taught and assessed.
b. The curriculum will include athlete safety and program design specificity throughout the core strength and conditioning courses.
c. Ensure field experiences that provide instruction, assessment, and feedback of current knowledge, skills, and abilities as outlined in CASCE standard IIIC.
- Collaborate with the local community and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Mayborn College of Health Sciences Center for Faith, Health, and Service to offer service-learning opportunities.
a. The curriculum will include a service-learning activity in their junior and senior year.
- Promote and support faculty and student development and leadership opportunities.
a. The program will provide opportunity for students and faculty to engage in interprofessional education.
b. The program will provide support to the EXSS student organization to promote student participation in professional and leadership activities.
In order to accomplish the mission of the SCEP, the faculty will:
- Model professional behaviors that reflect commitment to service to the institution, profession and community.
a. 100% of core faculty will serve on a university, school or department committee within 1 year of employment.
b. 100% of core faculty will participate in data collection, assessment, and evaluation of SCEP program outcomes.
c. 100% of core faculty will maintain membership in the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
d. 100% of core faculty who are CSCS’s will maintain certification.
e. 50% of core faculty will serve in elected, appointed positions/committees, or volunteer positions within the profession at the local, state and/or national level each year.
- Maintain currency in strength and conditioning, so that the program is assured the most current evidence-based knowledge, skills, and abilities are taught by the faculty.
a. 100% of faculty members who are CSCS’s will participate in at least one of the following activities per year:
i. Complete 10 CEUs in a topic related to an assigned course.
ii. Conduct a scholarly activity (research project, article, presentation) in a topic related to an assigned course
iii. Participate actively in development and implementation of a strength and conditioning program.
iv. Complete literature review of contemporary research findings in relation to a course taught.
- Participate in scholarly activities to advance the teaching, research, and practice of strength and conditioning through rigorous inquiry.
a. 100% of core faculty will submit at least one scholarly product every other year to a peer-reviewed journal or professional conference.
In order to accomplish the mission of the SCEP, students will:
- Demonstrate entry-level competency in strength and conditioning practice by the end of the program.
a. 100% of students will successfully meet or exceed all minimum performance criteria by completion of their field experience.
- Complete the degree requirements for the Strength and Conditioning Education Program.
a. 90% of students entering the program will graduate from the program within 40 months of matriculation.
- Demonstrate a commitment to service through community engagement.
a. 100% of students will participate in community service
b. 25% of students will exceed the minimum number of volunteer hours required for graduation from the program.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the profession of strength and conditioning.
a. 75% of students will become members of NSCA during the program.
In order to accomplish the mission of the SCEP, graduates will:
- Demonstrate competence as strength and conditioning professionals with consideration for advancing the profession.
a. 100% of graduates will pass the CSCS (80% first time pass rate).
b. 100% of graduates seeking employment will be employed within 6 months of passing the CSCS exam.
c. 100% of graduates seeking graduate school acceptance will begin a program within 6 months of graduation.
d. 25% of graduates will serve as leaders within practice, the profession, or the community within 5 years.
