Former UMHB professor Lea Goates and her husband Brent Goates have started a new journey opening up a rage room and Art Center located at 16 S. 4th Street in downtown temple.
The Wreck center offers multiple different packages all with fun titles that cater to whatever mood someone may be in. “We wanted to think about fun ways to describe those emotions,” Brent stated, along with Lea who added “Some of them are movie references from way before you were born.”
The “I need a break” package which costs $30 for one person that includes 25 breakable items, for 15 minutes with a weapon of their choice. An additional singular individual package, priced at $40 called “Me, Myself and Irate” includes 35 breakable items for 30 minutes.
The Wreck Center also has group packages which include the “Crash Test” priced at $60 for two people with 50 items to break and the “Bonding Time” package for two people that includes 70 breakables for 45 minutes.
The last package for groups from three to eight people includes 27 items to smash per person, and the session is based on how large the group is, the cost to participate in this group package is $30 per person.
In addition to the rage rooms, the Wreck Center also offers a splatter paint session priced at $20 per person and allows up to twelve people at a time. The room is a blacklight splatter room and guests receive a canvas, poncho and glow in the park to splatter on the walls.
The Wreck Center is also attached to The Art Dept, and according to Brent the studio offers “Adult art classes, gallery showings and art camps. We are also a venue to host parties.” The Art Dept will offer various classes throughout September that include a 2 hour class painting acrylic ink floras at 7 p.m, Saturday Sept. 7, making mosaics at 6:30 p.m, Saturday Sept. 14, an open markers table event with three time slots at 11 a.m, 12:30 p.m and 2 p.m, Saturday Sept. 8 and many more.
