On Sat., Jan. 27, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor tennis team played Texas Lutheran University in a duel match. The match was scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. but was postponed until 10:30 a.m. due to weather. Because of this delay the doubles matches were shortened to prosets. The match ended with both the men’s and women’s teams from Mary Hardin-Baylor sweeping Texas Lutheran’s teams.
On the men’s side; line one doubles, Gonzales and Fernandes, won 8-4; line two doubles, Hornbeck and Suarez, won 8-5; and line three doubles, Buchanan and Paquin won 8-4. Line one singles, Joaquim Fernandes, won 6-2, 6-1; at line two Santiago Marin Suarez won 6-1, 6-2; line three, Drew Gonzales, won 6-2, 6-4; at line four Ames Buchanan won 0-6, 6-4 (10-8); line five, Barret Scott won 6-3, 6-4 and at line six Jason Blattner won 7-6, 6-2.
On the women's side; line one doubles, Kittredge and Ha, won 8-2; line two doubles, Burns and Lane, won 8-0; and line three doubles, Almanza and Bryan won 8-0. In singles line one, Erin Kittredge, won 6-0, 6-0; line two, Zoe Male, won 6-1, 6-0; line three, Bailee Lane, won 6-0, 6-1; at line four Emily Higgs won 6-0, 6-0; line five, Kate Kell, won 6-0, 6-1; and Amelia Powell at line six won 6-0, 6-0.
This match proved to be a great start to the Crusader tennis season and the team is surely looking forward to their next match on Feb. 3 versus St. Thomas with high hopes and plenty of confidence.
