The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Volleyball team finished out their conference play this past Friday with a 3-0 series sweep over the University of Texas at Dallas Comets. The Cru finished the ASC regular season tied for second place with a 4-4 record after splitting series with Hardin-Simmons and LeTourneau University, winning both matchups against Howard Payne, and falling twice to East Texas Baptist University.
Though their conference record has taken a hit from the 2023 season where the Cru went 13-1 in conference play, growing pains were expected from a team with as much turnover as the Cru. After losing their two highest scorers from last season, the Cru have turned to some fresh faces to help replicate that scoring input. Freshman Outside Hitter Baylee Mobley has perhaps had the greatest impact, leading the team in scoring with 290 points thus far this season, with an outstanding 234 kills. Sophomore Libero Caiden Lasala has also been thrust into the forefront of this Cru team, leading the Cru in sets played with 98 on the season after only playing 64 as a freshman.
While the Cru could not secure a regular season ASC championship, they have secured their place in the Conference Tournament where anything could happen. The Cru will play two more matches before then however, as they travel to Houston to take on the University of California at Santa Cruz tomorrow at 3 p.m before turning around to play the University of St. Thomas on Saturday at 3 p.m.
