Cru Men’s Soccer traveled up to Minn. to play against nationally ranked No.1 St. Olaf University and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this past weekend.
Men's Soccer began their two games at 5 p.m. on Thurs. Sept. 5 when the Cru matched up against St. Olaf University.
Both teams' defenses came out to play in the first half with both teams held scoreless going into halftime.
The strong defensive play would continue in the second half with both teams holding each other scoreless until the 71st minute when freshman midfielder Drew Cooley scored the go-ahead goal off an assist from senior forward Ethan Dacaret.
After the go ahead goal the Cru would continue to hold St. Olaf scoreless, with sophomore goalkeeper Hayden Owens saving all four shots on goal.
This effort would help lead the Crusaders to a 1-0 victory over the No. 1 team in the nation pushing their record to 1-1-1
The Men's next match was against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 3:30 p.m. on Sat. Sept. 5. The Cru would dig themselves into a hole early after letting up two quick goals to the Staggs going down 2-0.
This deficit wouldn't last long however, as in the 36th minute freshman midfielder Evan Ruiz scored off another assist from Dacaret to cut the deficit to one. However, the Staggs would find the back of the net again bringing the lead back to two going into halftime.
The Cru tried to mount a comeback in the second half putting up three shots on goal, but the Staggs goalkeeper would deny them each time as the Cru would come up short against the Staggs losing 3-1.
After the second week of games the Cru sits at 1-2-1 with their next game being at 7:30 p.m. this Thurs. versus Austin College and marks the beginning of a five-game home stretch.
