Cru Men's soccer began their home stretch by winning both games this past weekend. The Cru began their third week on a high note, winning their home opener against the Austin College Roo's 2-1 this past Thursday, Sept.12.
Thursday's game started with the Cru getting a few shots off while the defense controlled the Roo's. This was until the 25th minute when senior forward Ethan Dacaret, found the top right corner to put the Cru up 1-0.
UMHB quickly followed up with another goal in the 28th minute when junior forward Xjavier Martinez scored the second goal of the night off an assist from mid-fielder Karsen Macias. This goal would help the Cru take a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
The Cru defense continued to hold coming out of the half until the 78th minute, when freshman Evan Ruiz was yellow carded. This led to the Roo's first goal of the day from the ensuing penalty kick. However, the defense kept the score 2-1 as the Cru got their second win of the season.
The Crusaders' next game was on Saturday, Sept.14 at home against the McMurry Warhawks, where they put out a dominating performance, beating the Warhawks 3-0.
The Cru kicked off their scoring in the 14th minute when Martinez scored off an assist from freshman midfielder Aidan Aguilera. The Cru would find the net again five minutes later when Macias scored, putting the Crusaders up 2-0.
Later in the half, the Cru would extend their lead up to three when Sophomore Forward Peighton Raisey found the back of the net to make it 3-0 going into the half.
One of the biggest reasons for the Cru lead going into half was the defense which held the Warhawks to a single shot on goal. This, along with the 12 shots by the Cru offense, caused the big lead going into halftime.
The second half was more of the same for the Cru defense, with their unit holding the Warhawks to zero shots in the second half as the Cru would win 3-0.
Coming out of the weekend, the Cru have improved their record to 3-2-1. Their next game is this Friday at 7p.m, Sept.20 at home against Trinity University.
