Belton, Texas – The College of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor presents the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble in concert on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Baugh Performance Hall of the Sue & Frank Mayborn Performing Arts Center on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor campus. This event is free and open to the public.
The UMHB Wind Ensemble is an instrumental ensemble open to any university student by audition, regardless of major. Repertoire is selected to expose performers to a wide range of musical languages, as well as technical, intellectual, and aesthetic challenges.
While the Wind Ensemble plays a broad range of music, the UMHB Jazz Ensemble focuses on the more specific genre that includes styles of music from Duke Ellington to the contemporary artists of today. A strong emphasis is placed on sight-reading but this group is open to all university students, regardless of major. The Jazz Ensemble performs many times during the year on campus and in the community.
This concert qualifies as a Fine Arts Experience (FAE) credit for UMHB students. The Fine Arts Experience program is designed to help students gain an appreciation for the fine arts in many forms during their time on campus. To this end, students are required to attend at least one designated Fine Arts Experience event each semester.
In addition to directing the Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble, Nils Landsberg, Assistant Professor of Music at UMHB, also teaches Instrumental Conducting, as well as Wind and Orchestral Literature. Under his leadership, the two instrumental ensembles have performed regionally, nationally, and internationally.
