Belton, Texas – On Thursday, March 22, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor alumnus Elijah Brown, general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA), will deliver a special lecture entitled “Revival and Persecution: The Story of the Global Church Today.” The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Manning Chapel inside of the Paul and Jane Meyer Christian Studies Center on the UMHB campus.
When Brown took over the role of BWA general secretary in January, he became both the youngest person and first Texan to ever hold the position. The Baptist World Alliance is a network of 225 member bodies in 122 countries and territories around the world. The group champions many causes, including promoting fellowship and unity among believers, nurturing passion for missions and evangelism, responding to human needs, and defending human rights.
Brown and his wife Amy graduated from UMHB in 2002. He went on to earn his doctorate from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Prior to accepting his new position at BWA, he served as the executive vice president of the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative, a group dedicated to advocating for issues of international religious freedom.
