Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor College of Visual and Performing Arts and the UMHB Art Department are proud to present the exhibition Below the Painted Surface: Paintings by Susan and David Harmon from Thursday, February 11, through Friday, March 4, in the gallery of the Baugh Center for Visual Arts on the UMHB campus. On Thursday, February 11, an opening reception and gallery talk will be held at 5:00 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.
The exhibition will feature the recent paintings by this husband and wife duo who share not only a last name but also a vibrant art and teaching career. Both are art educators at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, where David serves as Chairman of the Art Department. Both have shown their art extensively throughout the United States in solo and group exhibitions and have many honors and awards professionally and academically to their credit.
One of David’s series is a small format collection of paintings called Omnis, in which intimate acrylic works with unpredictable forms emerge within continuous patterned brushwork. David’s Primus series is a response to these ancient enigmatic narratives interpreted in contemporary materials. Susan’s work is inspired by the fractured lives of people who have been demoralized or suffer from mental illness.
The gallery of the Baugh Center for the Visual Arts is open 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information visit http://undergrad.umhb.edu/art/ or contact Hershall Seals at hseals@umhb.edu.
