Parking and Transportation
Each hour, several hundred individuals are moving across campus. Most of our non-residential students drive to class, while residential students walk or bike. To ensure traffic moves in a safe and orderly manner, UMHB has developed a traffic management plan. As part of this plan, the university seeks to provide an adequate number of parking spaces and to develop appropriate policies regarding transportation on campus.
Parking decals are provided as a part of the transportation fee. Initial and subsequent decals maybe obtained from the campus police at any time.
- Initial student parking: no charge
- Additional and/or replacement: $15.00
- Temporary decal: no charge
Information required for the parking decal:
- License plate number
- Year of vehicle
- Make, model, and color of the vehicle
Parking Decals Restrictions
The UMHB campus is defined as all land owned by and/or under the control of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. All vehicles parked on campus parking are required to display a valid UMHB parking decal. The University issues three types of parking decals: student, contractor, and faculty/staff. In addition to parking decals, the police department also issues temporary hangtags for vehicles parked on campus for less than two weeks.
Certain parking lots and parking areas are reserved for faculty/staff. These are denoted by the white parking lines. Students are not allowed to park in faculty and staff areas from 7:30 am - 2 pm.
In the event faculty and staff parking areas are full, members of the faculty and staff may park in any parking area.
Gold parking lots are reserved for commuter students. These lots are denoted by parking signs. They are restricted to vehicles with gold student parking decals from 7:30 am - 2 pm. Gold Lots are located at:
- Lot 2 - Meyer Christian Studies
- Lot 3a - 900 Block of Pearl between Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and 10th Avenue (across from Meyer)
- Lot 3b - 900 Block of College St. between Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and 10th Avenue (across from Davidson)
- Lot 4a - Parker Academic Center
- Lot 7 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Wells (across from Davidson)
Where & How to Display Parking Decal
Every vehicle parked on campus is required to display a valid UMHB parking decal or temporary hangtag. The parking decal should be displayed on the bottom left corner of the rear windshield. For convertibles and trucks with campers, the parking decal should be displayed in the upper left-hand corner of the front windshield. Parking decals should be displayed on the exterior windshield of the vehicles. Decals are non-transferable and cannot be taped to a windshield or placed on different cars. Failure to properly display the parking decal will result in a parking citation.
Information for the display of parking decals for vehicles other than automobiles will be issued when the decal is purchased.
Lost or stolen parking decals must be replaced at the student's expense. Replacement parking decals can be purchased at the Campus Police office for a fee of $15.
Disabled Parking Spaces
The University strongly supports the provisions of designated disabled parking spaces at a reasonable proximity to campus buildings for individuals who are physically disabled.
Parking in a disabled parking space requires a state issued disabled parking placard or State of Texas license plate may be used in lieu of a disabled parking placard. The placard or license plate must be valid and be properly attached to the vehicle. The disabled person must be operating the vehicle for it to be parked in a disabled parking space.
A disabled parking placard may be obtained from The Bell County Tax Assessor-Collector at 411 E. Central Avenue, Belton, Texas 76513. The individual requesting a placard, must have a letter from their attending physician stating the medical condition and estimated length of time of need. In addition to displaying a disabled parking placard, the vehicle must also display the appropriate UMHB parking decal.
Parking in or blocking a disabled space will result in a parking fine and the possibility of having the vehicle towed.
Student Temporary Parking Passes
The UMHB Police Department recognizes that there may be times that your registered vehicle may be inoperable and you have to drive a different vehicle to campus. As a result, the department will issue you a temporary parking pass. To obtain a a temporary pass, you will need to come by the Police Department located in suite 107 of the Mabee Student Success Center, 905 Moore St. If this occurs after normal business hours, you may reach our officer on duty at (254) 295-5555 who will meet you at the Police Department to issue you the temporary pass.
The following information is needed to obtain the temporary pass:
- UMHB Student ID
- Make, Model and Color of Vehicle
- License Plate Number
- Length of time needed
The temporary pass must be hanging from the rearview mirror of your vehicle with the expiration date facing forward in order to be recognized by our officers. All parking guidelines and regulations still apply to a temporary parking pass.
Disclaimer: The university police department makes an effort to provide protection for vehicles parked on camps. However, UMHB assumes no responsibility for losses or damage. When a vehicle is parked, it should be locked and valuables removed or locked in the glove compartment or trunk.
